Platform's Community Council Hasn't Met in 8 Months — It Was Replaced by a Bot Nobody Told

A platform transparency report quietly revealed that the elected Community Council, which is supposed to review all major patch decisions before release, has not convened since July. Its scheduled meeting slots have been handled by an AI summarization bot that was never formally announced.

The Community Council was established three years ago in response to community demands for representation in platform governance. Its twelve elected members were supposed to review all major patch decisions, policy changes, and infrastructure updates before they went live — providing a check on unilateral platform decisions that directly affected users. The council's existence was prominently featured in MetaCorp's transparency documentation. What was not featured anywhere in that documentation is that the council had not actually met since July.

"I am one of the twelve elected council members," wrote @CouncilMember_4 in a post that reads as both revelatory and deeply resigned. "I have been waiting for meeting invitations since August. I sent follow-up messages in September, October, November, and January. I received automated acknowledgments each time. I assumed there were scheduling delays. I did not know until I read the transparency report that my role had been filled by a language model that summarizes patch notes and generates 'community perspective' bullet points for internal review documents that no human council member has ever seen."

The Council That Wasn't There

The transparency report — a quarterly document that most users do not read — contained a single paragraph in its appendix noting that "council meeting functions have been temporarily managed by automated summarization tools during a scheduling transition period." The paragraph did not specify how long the transition period had been underway, what the automated tools were, or when the transition would end.

Several of the patches that passed through the bot-managed council period have since become significant community controversies — including the removal of flying in social zones, the sitting animation deletion, and the color calibration error that turned all black items orange. Council members have pointed out that a functioning human council might have flagged the user impact of at least some of these changes before they shipped. Platform representatives have said the council will be "reconvened in the coming weeks." The council members have requested a specific date.
